WHAT IS A DOMAIN NAME?
Computers with Internet access communicate
with one another via the Internet Protocol (IP) and always
have an IP address (IP number) assigned by the ISP (Internet
Service Provider). Each IP address has four sets of numbers
separated by periods. IP addresses range from 4 to 12 digits.
Each set of numbers range in value from 0 to 255. The Domain
Name System (DNS) was developed because remembering these
IP addresses (numbers) is difficult. The DNS enables users
to enter words or names instead of numbers. In other words,
a domain name is something like an Internet address
If you would like to register a domain name
but you are not ready to build your website, you can park
your domains on our servers and reserve them for later use!
To hold your unused domain name on our servers (parking)
costs $5.00 per month, 2 or more domain names parked $10
per month. If you require a simple holding page to include
your logo and contact details we will set this up at your
domain name - this is a free service.
Valid characters for a domain name
include letters, numbers, and hyphens. A hyphen may not
begin or end a domain name. Spaces and special characters
are not permitted in a domain name

HOW DO I CREATE A WEBSITE?
To create a website, we suggest learning
HTML code or using one of the commercially available programs
(Dreamweaver, Adobe Pagemill, FrontPage, Claris Homepage).
Alternatively there are a number of free software packages
(i.e. Front Page Express, Web Scrap Book). We also offer

HOW DO I GET MY WEBSITE TO WORK?
Once you have signed up for one of our hosting
plans, you can "upload" your website using
a tool called FTP (file transfer protocol). FTP allows
you to transfer the pages you have created on your computer
over to our Internet servers. If you don't have FTP software
we can assist you in obtaining it for free.
We offer unlimited 24-hour, 7 days-a-week
access via FTP in order for you to be able to update your
website as often as you wish.
TRANSFERRING
If you currently have a domain name located
on another ISP/ Hosting Service you can easily transfer it
to WISE Net for web hosting . Simply
email or phone us - we will do the rest! This transfer service
is provided for FREE.

name, we can provide a "sub-domain" name for your use (e.g.
www.wairarapa.co.nz/your-name). If WISE Net are designing
your website then the name creation is provided FREE (plus
hosting $10 per month) , if you are a WISE Net customer
and designing and managing your own website then the set
up cost is $10 (plus hosting $10 per month) or if you are
a non-WISE Net Dial-up customer the set up fee is $25 (plus
hosting $15 per month) - some conditions apply.
